Naji is a device for turning street lights into floatation devices during a flood.

The project is designed to be plugged into existing infrastructure, with minimal expense and no added construction necessary. In normal conditions, Naji slots into the base of streetlights. During times of severe flooding, the device floats to the top of the water’s surface. Naji is produced from ethylene vinyl acetate, a resilient and boyant material that is capable of bearing the weight of multiple people. In an emergency, users can sit inside one of the device’s four arms as they await rescue. For those unable to sit, Naji is equipped with belts that will keep their bodies stable and heads above water.
